The objective of the Health Communication and Marketing Internship, under the supervision of the Communications Manager, is to gain experience and knowledge related to the development of communication strategies and marketing tactics related to attract and retain the Unity patient population. In addition, s/he will be responsible for meeting developmental benchmarks set by the supervising Communications Manager and the VP of Planning and External Affairs.


The intern will be responsible for attending any informational meetings and trainings, to which s/he is assigned to attend and assist the Communications Manager and others as needed with any projects as they arise. The intern will be expected to perform the duties detailed below:

  • Conduct market research to gain an understanding of how Unity patients receive healthcare messaging
  • Develop a Unity specific patient journey map
  • Create campaign-specific personas
  • Assist in development of campaign content
  • Assist in the creation of a pilot ad campaign
  • Develop evaluation methods to measure results


  • Minimum of 3 years Bachelor’s work, prefer candidate pursing Master’s in this area
  • Coursework in public health, community health or health communications


  • Interest in public health and/or community health;
  • Ability to work with diverse populations with cultural sensitivity;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Critical thinking skills;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Ability to function in a high-pressured, deadline-oriented environment;
  • Ability to work as a member of a team;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of various computer software packages (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Constant Contact, etc.);
  • Knowledge of various computer software packages (i.e. Excel, Word, WordPerfect, PowerPoint, etc.);
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.)
