Care for the Homeless, an entrepreneurial non-profit provider of healthcare, shelter and social services to homeless people in NYC, seeks a seasoned human resource professional to join our team and help us transform our vision from traditional HR to a focus on human capital in the next stage of our growth.  Our greatest asset is our staff.  The successful candidate will help us retain our strongest people and attract highly talented and committed doctors, nurses and social workers who want to work with us to end homelessness in New York City.


Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Human Resources will develop and execute policies, procedures and programs that provide a clear, consistent framework for the Human Resources department of a growing non-profit agency with 125 employees. With a particular focus on the recruitment and retention of medical and other staff, the Director of Human Resources will join our highly motivated management team as the point-person on all HR issues, with overall responsibility for orientation and training, compensation, benefits, staff development and employee relations.


We are looking for a senior-level human resources generalist with a broad knowledge of all aspects of HR, experience with non-profit organizations, and knowledge of legal and regulatory labor requirements. Health care industry experience – particularly in recruiting medical providers – a big plus. A dynamic, energetic, flexible and strong manager, the Director of Human Resources must have excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills and demonstrated knowledge of and experience with HRIS and ADP systems, especially data compilation and report writing. The HR Director must also have expertise with payroll processing, budgeting, financial reporting and allocating agency resources.

Additional requirements include:

Prefer Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Human Services Administration;
Eight (8) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in senior management in human resources;
Membership in SHRM and AWI is desirable as is training in organizational development, compensation, and workplace investigations and preventive labor relations.
