A Curriculum for Training HCH Outreach Workers
Chronic homelessness is a real life drama about being caught among the forces of extreme poverty, a lack of access to adequate resources and services, the experience of illness and disability, and feelings of estrangement from self and community. This curriculum provides a comprehensive overview of the principles, knowledge, and issues relevant to doing outreach in the Health Care for the Homeless context. Specific topics addressed in the curriculum include: the HCH model of outreach; the Relational Outreach and Engagement Model; engaging and connecting; reflective listening; worker safety; self-care; health and social issues; effective referral and linking; practical and ethical dilemmas; the outreach worker as advocate; and more.
