The HCH Relief Fund

Recent hurricanes have created much new homelessness, with its attendant health care needs, and have destroyed much Health Care for the Homeless capacity on the Gulf Coast. HCH clinical facilities in New Orleans, Biloxi and Mobile were severely damaged or destroyed, and many established clients are going without needed care. The tide of newly homeless persons has already increased demand on HCH services elsewhere. HCH projects in cities like Atlanta, Chattanooga, Washington DC, Houston, and Dallas have been important providers of care at arrival points and emergency shelters. HCH projects as far away as Casper, Wyoming, and Los Angeles report seeing among their clients persons who have fled the Gulf Coast, and we expect the same to occur everywhere as the Diaspora from the South takes hold.
The National Health Care for the Homeless Council has established the HCH Disaster Fund as one avenue for the HCH community to respond. To help meet immediate needs, and to help restore the capacity of HCH projects to serve their communities, all contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund will be re-distributed as follows:
25% to the Franklin Primary Health Center in Mobile
25% to Tulane Drop-In Health Services in New Orleans
25% to Coastal Family Health Center in Biloxi
25% to other HCH projects that serve persons displaced by the hurricane or to homeless agencies severely impacted by recent disasters; the National Council’s Board of Directors will choose these recipients.
Contributions to the fund have been heartening, and are being put to work already. A list of donors appears below.
Please make a generous contribution to the HCH Disaster Fund using your MasterCard or Visa, by visiting http://www.nhchc.org/donate.html.

Checks made to the National HCH Council and designated for the Disaster Relief Fund can be mailed to:
