The Staff Writer is responsible for writing one feature news story (1200-2000 words) per issue of The Contributor (released twice-monthly starting February 2012). All stories will engage issues revolving around poverty, homelessness and other forms of marginalization.
Part-time (20-25 hrs/wk)
$16,000 yearly salary
Position begins Jan/Feb 2012

Requirements
2-3 years professional journalism experience
Very strong writing skills
Strong people skills
Punctuality with deadlines
Strong independent, out-of-office work ethic
Availability (reliable and responsive via email/phone)
Reliable transportation
Strong knowledge of poverty/homelessness a plus
Photojournalism experience a plus
Responsibilities
The Staff Writer reports to the Editor and is responsible for in-the-field reporting, interviewing and researching on assigned subjects and events. The Staff Writer is responsible for writing one feature news story (1200-2000 words) per issue. Additional news briefs may occasionally be required, as well. The Staff Writer will work both in and out of The Contributor office (located in downtown Nashville).
