Job Description

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless seeks a Psychiatrist to work collaboratively with public and private agencies to address the services needs of individuals who are homeless and experiencing serious and persistent mental illness. This position is located at 2111 Champa Street, Denver, and reports to the Director of Psychiatry. Both full-time and part-time applicants will be considered. Qualifications

  1. MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy and completion of an accredited residency program in psychiatry.
  2. Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a physician.
  3. Board certification in psychiatry is preferred.
  4. Current DEA licensure.
  5. Proven clinical competence in the provision of psychiatric care.
  6. Demonstrated experience and sensitivity in working with homeless and at-risk individuals and families.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides comprehensive psychiatric care to adults (and youth as appropriate), to include screening clients for acute psychiatric conditions; obtaining relevant mental health, substance use and medical histories; performing mental status exams, formulating an appropriate differential diagnosis based on the history, review of symptoms and mental status examination; prescribing and monitoring medication, to include ordering and interpreting laboratory testing and referring for further medical work-up as appropriate; and treating involuntary clients according to CRS 27-65.
  2. Facilitates client’s participation in self-care by providing information and choices in a non-judgmental, respectful manner.
  3. Communicates client’s status and treatment plan with others involved in his or her care. Works cooperatively to facilitate comprehensive client care.
  4. Maintains complete and accurate clinical notes using MHCD electronic health record. Finishes required clinical or service tracking documentation in a timely manner, including billing-related documentation.
  5. Provides ongoing education, support and consultation for Bridges team members as well as other organizational colleagues.
  6. Regularly attends and participates in Bridges team meetings to assess client status and progress, to coordinate treatment activities and to develop treatment solutions to problems encountered over the course of client care.
