Job Description

The Medical Director is appointed by the Board of CFH; is delegated the authority and is responsible for the professional, organizational and administrative aspects of the adequacy and quality of health care provided to patients and clients of CFH. In particular, patients of CFH Article 28 clinics, CFH shelter facilities, and patients served in Section 330h grant funded areas.

Requirements

  • Current license as a physician in New York State.
  • Board certification / eligibility in a primary or specialty care discipline.
  • Refined organizational skills and leadership qualities
  • Experienced with health care planning and administration within an ambulatory health setting serving a multi-problem clientele.
  • FQHC experience.
  • Knowledge of medical staff organization and structure, medical credentialing and privileging, outcomes-based quality of care, clinical effectiveness and performance improvement.
  • EMR background.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative/Supervisory responsibilities:
  • Establishes the standards of care and maintains the medical policies and procedures of the clinics consistent with NYS DOH Article 28, HRSA BPHC 330h and HIV/AIDS Bureau guidelines.
  • Directs compliance of medical services and quality improvement activities including Quality Review and Credentialing, patient Grievances and all medical activities in order to achieve a high quality of care and cost containment goals.
  • Ensures that resources are used efficiently, and that providers are used in ways to maximize their contribution to meeting patient and clinic needs.
  • Is a member of the CFH Senior Leadership and participates in determining the strategic direction of Care for the Homeless as it relates to medical services.
  • Actively participates in the hiring, orientation, evaluation and discipline processes for medical staff.
  • Insures ongoing medical services at all clinic sites.
  • Provides guidance and review of health related curricula.
  • Addresses health needs at non-Article 28 sites such as the shelter portion of Susan's Place.
  • Establishes relationships/partnerships with community organizations such as other institutions of higher learning, social service agencies, tertiary institutions and other collaborators to enhance the health care services to CFH clients.
  • Participate in finding new funding sources and expanding current funding.
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    1. Some percentage of time will be spent directly providing medical care and follow up interventions to clinic patients
    2. Provides ongoing supervision for all providers in the CFH network and serve as collaborating physician for Nurse Practitioners as required by NYS Department of Education.
    3. Lead or provide direction in clinical conferences, clinical incentives including, but not limited to, Meaningful Use, Patient Centered Medical Home; and provide medical expertise as appropriate.
    4. Lead as directed or participate in the achievement of clinical standards as set by CFH.
    5. Lead as directed or participate in meeting quality goals as set by CFH and funding sources including BPHC and Ryan White HIV funding.

Other Information

This position will require traveling between clinic sites (up to several per day) and CFH central office, as needed. CFH has office / clinic locations in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan.
