POSITION TITLE:        Medical Director

 REPORTS TO:             Executive Director

 SUPERVISES:               Medical Staff

 SCHEDULE:                 Full-time

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Medical Director is responsible for administering, maintaining and expanding primary and preventative medical services in a community health care setting.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctoral degree (MD or DO) from an accredited school of medicine.
  • License to practice in the State ofLouisianaor ability to obtain a license inLouisiana.
  • Five or more years experience in general medicine/family practice.
  • Experience developing and implementing quality improvement programs.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Requirements

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and other applicable standards and principles for clinical practice.
  • Ability to creatively work with other health care professionals of varying disciplines to achieve maximum productivity and programmatic effectives.
  • Ability to promote growth and development of staff and fellow professionals exercising appropriate supervisory control and displaying good work judgment.
  • Ability to work in a community health center setting working with homeless individuals.
  • Ability to gain confidence of patients and to work harmoniously with fellow employees.
  • Ability to prepare reports and supervise the maintenance of medical records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and situations, including strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide day-to-day clinical supervision of assigned medical staff.
  2. Performs direct comprehensive primary medical care services and/or refers patients for consultation or treatment in accordance to approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
  3. Accurately document medical encounters in the patient’s medical record to include the nature of the visit, assessment and treatment plan.
  4. Provides health education to patients about medical condition(s) and preventative health measures.
  5. Attend trainings, staff and community meetings as required/assigned.
  6. Develop, implement and maintain appropriate Medical Department policies and procedures in accordance with the most current accepted professional standards  assuming primary responsibility for developing the clinic’s health care plan.
  7. Participates in the development of long and short tem program goals and clinic
  8. Assists the administrative team in the preparation of grant applications as required.
  9. Assists in the coordination and integration of the clinic’s medical programs and services with available external resources for the welfare of the patients.
  10.  Assures compliance with requirements set forth by the City ofNew Orleans, the clinics Federal 330(H) Grant and all other applicable federal, state and local regulations and procedures governing the practice of medicine and the clinical provision of medical care.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by the clinic’s Director to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.
