HEPATITIS C AMONG THE HOMELESS: BURDENED AND INELIGIBLE Location: Hyatt Regency, Remington Hepatitis C affects less than 2% of the US population, but between 22% to 53% of homeless populations. Mortality rates are rising, especially in minorities 45-64 years of age. The evaluation of patients with chronic HCV can be expensive, and rates of treatment are generally low. The evaluation, education, vaccination, and utilization of directly observed therapy in this disproportionately affected, resource poor population will be discussed. Advanced Level. Presenter: Scott Wilson, MD, El Rio Community Health Center, Tucson, AZ. Materials: PowerPoint Presentation (ppt) |
